  • Receive consistent professional mentoring and feedback throughout the certification process
  • Score a language sample to identify your student’s baseline narrative level.
  • Formulate narrative goals to facilitate thinking, academics, and social/emotional growth.
  • Select and analyze children’s literature to design intervention that addresses narrative text structure, sentence, vocabulary development, and Social-Emotional Growth.
  • Provide intervention using SGM® and/or Braidy® that maximizes the impact of every second your students are in front of you whether on a screen, or in the classroom, or therapy room.
  • Monitor students’ progress using our systematic and explicit tools to inform instruction, collaborate with team members and communicate with parents.

  • You will receive a confirmation receipt by email prompting you to register for the Certification sessions. You will then receive a Zoom link.
  • All registrants will have access to the RECORDED VERSIONS of the Certification until June 30, 2021.
  • You must attend ALL 4 LIVE SESSIONS and SUBMIT all required assignments to receive ASHA CEUs.
  • ALL participants receive a certificate for their MindWing Professional Narrative Certification.

PREREQUISITES

To participate in this Certification you must own or have access to MindWing’s Story Grammar Marker® manual and tools or Braidy the StoryBraid® manual and tools AND answer YES to at least one of the following statements:

  • I have participated in the Story Grammar Marker® Master Class or Braidy the StoryBraid® Master Class.
  • I have attended at least one full-day workshop (Narrative, Story Grammar Marker® or Braidy the StoryBraid®) through my school district or organization within the last 6 years and can provide the date and location.
  • I have previously completed SGM® Certifications Module 1 and/or 2.*

* Please note: MindWing Professional Narrative Certification is a newly designed virtual format to replace our previous in-person, intensive Story Grammar Marker® Certification that has been completed by more than 100 professionals in the past several years. Colleagues who have completed previous Certifications may use their special discount to join this virtual certification.

LEARNER OUTCOMES

Participants will be able to…

  • Maryellen and Lauren in circleElicit a narrative sample from a student, assess the macro & microstructure, score the sample, and write goals based on narrative developmental stages and the desired student progress
  • Analyze a selection of children’s literature for macro and microstructure with student’s goals in mind and design an intervention plan using Story Grammar Marker® and Braidy®
  • Provide targeted intervention using the SGM® and Braidy® tools with fidelity to meet goals and improve students’ skills in the area of oral language, thinking, comprehension, and social-emotional learning.

TIME-ORDERED AGENDA

  SESSION 1
4:00-4:30 Introduction to Certification/Review of SGM® Approach
4:30-5:30 Identifying your student’s baseline narrative level using the SGM® Narrative Developmental Stages, Progress Monitoring Forms for Narrative Macrostructure and Microstructure
5:30-6:15 Scoring a language sample
6:15-7:00 Formulating narrative goals to guide intervention and facilitate thinking, academics, and social/emotional growth.
  ONE WEEK in between Sessions 1 & 2: Participants Assess their Student and Write Goals
  SESSION 2
4:00-5:30 Participants present their Scored Samples and 3 Narrative Goals for their student; Discuss and Debrief as a group with feedback from presenters.
5:30-7:00 Analyzing children’s literature to design intervention that addresses narrative text structure, sentence, vocabulary development, and Social-Emotional Growth.
  ONE WEEK in between Sessions 2 & 3: Participants choose a book for intervention, analyze the book for narrative macrostructure and microstructure and design the intervention based on their 3 goals for their student.
  SESSION 3
4:00-6:00 Participants Present their Narrative Analysis and Plan for Intervention. Discuss and Debrief as a group with feedback from presenters.
6:00-7:00 Monitoring students’ progress using our systematic and explicit tools to inform intervention.
  2 WEEKS in between Sessions 3 & 4: Participants provide intervention with their student in 4 sessions; the final session with student includes the Post Assessment.

4:00-6:00 Participants present their Intervention and pre/post progress monitoring results.

PRESENTERS

Maryellen Rooney Moreau, M.Ed. CCC-SLP

Maryellen is the Founder and President of MindWing Concepts. After graduating from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in Communication Disorders and receiving her Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Pennsylvania State University, she began her now 50-year professional career. She worked in several roles; school-based SLP,  SLP in a home care/community-based setting, Assistant Professor, Diagnostician, and Coordinator of Intervention Curriculum and Professional Development. She created the Story Grammar Marker® and was awarded two U.S. patents. In 2011, Moreau received the Boise Peace Quilt Project Award for her work with children in the area of conflict resolution and social communication. In 2014, she received the Alice H. Garside Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Dyslexia Association, Massachusetts Branch (MABIDA) for exemplary leadership, service, or achievement in the area of helping children with dyslexia and language learning disabilities Moreau is an internationally recognized presenter.

Linda LaFontaine head shotLinda M. Lafontaine, M.A., CAGS, CCC-SLP

Linda received her Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology in 1981 from the University of Maryland. In 2014 she received her CAGS from American International College as a Reading Specialist. Linda has practiced in many settings, including hospital, public and private schools. She is the former Principal of the Curtis Blake Day School of the Children’s Study Home, for students with dyslexia/LLD. Linda has presented at the Massachusetts Speech-Language Hearing Association and the American Speech-Language Hearing Conventions. She also presented on the topic of “Narratives” at a learning disabilities conference in the United Arab Emirates. In her current role, Linda uses her 25+ years of experience with Story Grammar Marker®, ThemeMaker®, and MindWing’s other methodologies as a trainer, presenter, and co-author on new publications.

Statement of Learning

MindWing’s Professional Narrative Certification will be provided on-line,  LIVE by accessing a Zoom meeting link. The course will be recorded for future use by MindWing Concepts, Inc. The course content will include lecture, video(s), case study review, break-out group activities,  group discussion, and question and answer session. Attendees’  microphones may be muted during certain parts of the sessions. Questions may be posed by listeners by “raising their hand” (live) or using the “chat”  feature on Zoom. Questions posed using the “chat” feature will be shared by the moderator with the presenter and addressed.

Assessment of Learning

These tools will be used to assess the degree to which course participants achieved the course's/session's learning outcomes:

  • Performance demonstrations (within break out sessions)
  • Completion of a project (assignment)
  • Question-and-answer session (at end of session)
