Clifford’s First Valentine‘s Day coverClifford’s ValentinesNorman Bridwell’s Clifford books are, of course, very popular with preschool and early elementary school-aged students. If you’re looking for a quick activity to reinforce the Character icon for Valentine’s Day for the younger set, pick up a copy of Clifford’s First Valentine’s Day or Clifford’s Valentines.

  1. Read the book for enjoyment.
  2. Retell the story to the students using Braidy Doll.
  3. Copy the Character Icon Picture Frame from our Braidy Manual, page 134, one for each student.
  4. Give each child the Heart Handout (download) printed on red paper. (There are many similar activities found on Pinterest.)
  5. Have students cut, assemble, glue and add details to the picture as shown.

Possible Extensions:

  1. Braidy Drawing PageGive each child a Character Writing Page from our Braidy manual (page 148) and do the same activity but ask each child to write a sentence or two about what they LOVE about Clifford!
  2. Braidy Character MapFor older students, you may want to plan a character writing lesson similar to our recent Frosty lesson using the Character Map from our Braidy Manual found on page 159.

Whichever activity you choose, have a Happy Valentine’s Day!
