Autism & Social Communication Workshop

Facilitating Relationships!
Story Grammar Marker® for Social Problem Solving, Building Central Coherence and Teaching Conversational Skills with Six-Second-Stories®

Hampton Inn Natick, MA – SATURDAY, May 12, 2012
8:00-2:30pm (7:30am Registration)

Course Description:
This highly interactive professional development workshop is the “next step” in Story-Based Intervention. “Story-Based Intervention” was cited as one of eleven established treatments for autism, according to the Findings and Conclusions Report, National Standards Project, United States National Autism Center. During this activity-based workshop, the presenters will share techniques for facilitating reciprocal relationships and social communication. Featured, will be the cutting-edge technique called Six-Second-Stories® which provides differentiated instruction to students/children/clients with Autism Spectrum Disorders or other Social Learning Challenges, who don’t know how to initiate conversation, prevent conversational breakdowns or how to repair them when they occur. In addition to Six-Second-Stories®, other methods shared will be Cumulative Narrative Chunking™ for building Central Coherence, ways to integrate SGM® and Social Thinking® and Social Problem Solving using SGM® with new Social Problem Solving activity prompts. Story Grammar Marker® (SGM®) is the foundation for all methods shared since stories (narratives) are how people share ideas, plans, dreams, memories and beliefs in social interaction at school, home or work. *Included in price! Our newest manual: Facilitating Relationships! Six Second Stories® and Other Social Communication; A Guide For Educators and Parents of Children with Social Learning Challenges.

Registration Deadline is Wednesday, May 10, 2012. This workshop is appropriate for Speech Language Pathologists, Autism Specialists, Teachers, Reading Specialists, Psychologists, Social Workers, Literacy Coaches and Parents (Kindergarten – Grade 5). This is an intermediate level workshop; knowledge of Story Grammar Marker® methodology is suggested.
